Position: Historic Building Surveyor
- Undertaking historic building significance appraisals, heritage impact assessments and writing heritage statements, including the assessment of direct and indirect impacts on heritage assets.
- Completing surveys to enable removal of modern features (also known as a soft-strip surveys) and producing reports for local planning authorities, private clients and contractors.
- Completing condition surveys of historic buildings and producing itemised schedules of repairs. Specifying and designing repairs to historic fabric and advising on appropriate thermal upgrading.
- Produce repair packages up to RIBA Stage 3 and 4 detailed design.
- Writing conservation strategies that include repair methodologies and specifications to advise on appropriate best practice repairs to historic fabric.
- Assessment of contractor’s method statements and repair proposals, including advising contractors on appropriate methods to minimise the impact to historic fabric and ensure repairs are undertaken to conservation best practice standards.
- Providing design guidance on the appropriate and sensitive intervention to historic buildings.
- Designing sympathetic conversions and sensitive adaptation of historic buildings, including the development of designs through the use of sketching and AutoCAD.
- Providing consultancy services to clients and contractors to discharge planning and listed building consent conditions on major conservation projects.
- Acting as the Heritage Consultant to the project architect and principal contractor throughout the construction phase to project completion, undertaking site visits to assess workmanship and advising on compliance to the consented scheme and where works require further consent. This included quality assessment of materials and advising on the use of appropriate materials that are compatible with the buildings historic fabric.
