Historic Building Surveys
Patina Building Conservation is grounded in ensuring that a comprehensive understanding of the historic building provides the starting point before any repair works are undertaken. We can provide detailed condition surveys and reports that conform to the Quinquennial Inspection method of surveying and are equivalent to and regularly go beyond the detail of RIBA level 3 and RICS level 3 surveys. We can also develop detailed repair packages for tendering purposes through RIBA stage 4 design and develop repair details. Alongside our surveys we can produce drawing packages through both annotated drawings as well as detailed design of repairs and alterations where necessary.

What is Historic Building Surveying?
Historic building surveying is the detailed inspection of older, listed, or traditional properties to assess their condition, risks, and repair needs. Unlike modern building surveys, it requires expert knowledge of:
-
Traditional construction methods (stone, timber, lime, etc.)
-
Age-related defects and deterioration
-
Listed building legislation and conservation requirements
Our surveys don’t just highlight problems. We provide clear, practical advice on conservation and compliance with planning legislation and statutory protection — giving you a roadmap to maintain your property responsibly.
Why Historic Building Surveys Matter
Every historic building tells a unique story — but without proper care, it risks damage, loss of value, or even legal issues.
-
Protect your investment with early detection of defects
-
Stay compliant with listed building and planning consent
-
Conserve historic fabric so original features and craftsmanship endure
With our services, you’ll gain confidence in your decisions and peace of mind that your building is in safe hands.
