Position: Technical Officer
- Managing and providing advice through the technical advice line. Providing technical advice about the repair and alteration of historic buildings to homeowners, professionals, building managers and local authorities across Scotland, UK and internationally.
- Responsible for delivering research projects in traditional mortars, surface finishes and improving construction details to further our understanding of how to best maintain and repair historic buildings in the changed climate.
- Writing case studies and technical papers to present findings of research projects.
- Reviewing existing and re-writing publications on the repair of historic buildings.
- Organising education and outreach events in line with research projects, including the 2019 SPAB Scottish Working Party of lime burning on Lismore.
- Experience of presenting at seminars and workshops including RICS Young Surveyors day, SPAB Roofing Seminar and the HES Conservation Summer School.
- Carried out laboratory analysis of historic lime mortars and field testing of materials suitable for the repair of traditional buildings, presenting all findings in report format.
- Providing technical advice on grant applications of the Historic Environment Support Fund and Thatching Grant.
- Undertook secondment with the Adams Napier Partnership to develop experience in surveying, specifying and developing feasibility of conservation heating and renewable energy system to a museum within a Category B listed church.
